An easier alternative would be connecting via USB port. I am sure you recieved a USB cable from your internet service provider, together with ethernet cable. If you don't have it you can purchase a usb cable from a computer shop. You need to run the installation CD once again, and choose the option 'connect via USB', when the CD prompts you to choose either ethernet or USB connection. Then USB drivers will be installed to your hard drive, (you don't have to do anything, CD does it for you), then when promted by the CD, connect the computer and modem via USB cable.
